Bath, Maine

History

Previously known as the "King's Castle"

This stunning 4,758-square-foot farmhouse estate has been placed on the National Register of Historical Places by the U.S. Department of Interior. The granite ‘Stonehouse’ sits atop Bath’s Whiskeag hill as Maine’s first gothic revival. Built by Governor William King in 1812, the property has since served as a hunting lodge, marine hospital, tavern, dairy farm, and now a one-of-a-kind vacation rental!

Stonehouse features 5 bedrooms, 3 full bathrooms, 2 half baths, multiple gathering spaces both inside and out, a 16-by-40-foot in-ground heated saltwater pool (seasonal), and 38 acres of private perennial gardens, ponds, fields, and woods. The estate is rich in history and charm, setting the scene for a fairytale vacation throughout every season.

Located just 15 minutes from Bowdoin College and less than an hour from Bates and Colby colleges, Bath was named one of the best small towns to visit in 2021 and features an abundance of Coastal Maine’s unique offerings. We are thrilled to welcome HelmsBnB’s past and future guests to experience everything this extraordinary home and its surrounding grounds has to offer.
